Getting Closer

Construction is moving along quickly. There's a greater sense of "Let's get this done" since we're in the last few months. Opening weekend is scheduled for October 24/25.

175 Cubic Yards

The men from Absolute Concrete poured 175 cubic yards of concrete Thursday and Friday. That's a lot of flatwork! Now that the floor has been established under the upper level seating (in the auditorium), framing crews can finish installing the network of walls that separate the auditorium from the foyer.

What Happened To The Office?

We're moving the entrance to the office to the opposite corner of the office section so that it faces the new foyer. On Monday, we demolished two offices in one corner and the "old" reception area in the other corner. It will be a little crazy for the next few weeks...

Above: Here's where the entrance to the new office will be (viewed from the new foyer). They will be removing the window and brick this week and replacing it with a door and large section of glass.

Above: The view from the existing office foyer. There used to be a glass wall and door here. New framing for the offices is laid out on the floor.

A Little Bit of Everything

Walls that define the video control room and the amp room are up in the backstage area. These two rooms hold "behind the scenes" audio & video equipment.

The front of house booth (a.k.a. the sound booth) will be located by this cluster of conduit, located in the rear rows of the lower level of seating. The stage is in the background.

Painting continues in the main foyer. This is a view from the front entrance toward the new office entrance.

Stage and Steps

The support structure for the thrust stage is going up, and the concrete steps under the main floor seating are being poured one level at a time. The seating area surrounds the stage nearly 180 degrees and is flat on every level. No more sloping floor!

Foyer Windows

Clark Glass has begun the installation of the large windows in the foyer. This set is located by the new coffee bar and seating area and gives views to the north and west.

Concrete Floors!

With a good portion of the underground work finished, the workers are beginning to install the concrete floors. Story Construction is building the addition "top down," which means they have finished most of the ceiling work and are now finishing the lower part of the facility. By waiting to install the concrete floors, we were able to save a lot of money in heating costs (over the winter), plus they were able to drive large lifts around to access the upper reaches of the building (and therefore not damaging the floors below).

Miles of Conduit

One of our electricians estimates that there are over 6 miles of conduit in the new addition for electrical wire and for audio/video/lighting cabling. Even if he's not correct in his calculations, I guarantee you that there's a lot of it! Much of it is unseen and will be buried, but it is extremely important and will serve as a solid infrastructure for a lot of equipment.
